Brighton Modelworld February 15 to 17th 2008.

19/02/2008

I have just returned from the Modelworld Show at Brighton, this year being the 30th Anniversary of the Show, not that I have been to them all!

Whilst this Show cannot compare with a major Show such as Autosport it contains a similar BRCA element, but in miniature. Thanks to the efforts of the local Clubs the East Wing, Upper Hall “Beta” of the Brighton Centre was turned into a model race track for the three days, with the Haywards Oval Track Racers (HOT Racers) normal oval being enlarged this year to also feature a circuit just large enough to make a 1/10th electric touring car track, so that not only the Bognor Car Club, but also the 1/10th circuit side of the Adur Club, who were there with a static display of the complete range of cars raced, along with the Eastbourne Club, who also had a static display and DVD, could show off their skills. As a result on all three days there was a mixture of racing, with stockcars, bangers, hot rods and the usual oval fare, being supported by 1/10th electric circuit racing. Adding some spice to the proceedings was the HOT Racers version of the “Italian Job”, with the three minis making it into the back of the bus at all times on all three days much to the enjoyment of the large crowd that gathered, even if the bus doors did suffer from the inevitable knocks. The track was also shared with the 1:14 scale trucks, who put on regular displays every day enabling the “racers” to have a spot of relief and prepare for the next round of action. With the Club stands around the outside wall of the hall, along with the static BRCA display, there was plenty for the large crowd to see and information to pick up.

Downstairs the 3A Raceway was in action with nitro Offroad vehicles sharing an arena with tanks, as well as many stands selling r/c parts and electric components.

My thanks, and those of the BRCA, go to all those who made the Show and the racing what it was, from the Show organisers, who were as helpful as ever, those who raced and especially those who put down and took away the track, not to mentioned helped me with unloading and loading up at the start and end of the Show.
