The clubs web site where viewers can see the racing calendar, gallery of event photos, contact the committee and even join the forum, at http://www.cmcc-online.com The club chairman sent us this brief history of the club "The club first started in 1975 as the Coventry Radio Control Model Stock Car Club. The First Track was made out of Wood and races were held in Longford Park. The centre line was marked out with Coke tins filled with Concrete, to simulate Brandon Stock Cars. Next site we tried only lasted one meeting when Vandals dug holes in the Tarmac Tennis Court. One of the long standing sites was a car park at Tile Hill College and the second was at the Biggin Hill Fire Station. With the introduction of 1/12th scale Electric Cars we moved in doors and used the Scout Hall of the Coventry 62nd, With the introduction of 1/12th Stock Cars from Mardave and Schumacher, a bigger venue was required, so we moved everything to the British Legion Club at Ryton-on-Dunsmore. The out come was we had the Best Tarmac Oval in the Country, holding European and World Finals, with Drivers from: - England, Scotland, Belgium, Holland, Italy and USA. Next 9 day wonder was the Electric Offroad, with 1/10th Electric 2WD and 4WD models, so another was sculptured next to the Oval. Out aim was always to be the BEST model car club in the country. In our hayday we held: Electric Stock Cars every Wednesday night with on average 60 drivers. Electric Off road 2nd and 4th Sundays with 50 average and 1/8th Oval 1st and 3rd Sunday 40+ drivers. Off Road was growing so we moved Off Road section to our current site at Trinity Rugby Club in 1998, and when the British Legion Club closed in 2002 we had to close the Stock Oval as funds would not allow us to build another.… 2003 also saw the introduction of the Midland Astro Masters between the Brandon Club and the Coventry club. 2005 saw the beginning of Track 3, construction required mainly to accommodate the increasing popularity of RallyX, as they were and still are NOT allowed to race on Track 1. 2007 sees improvements to Track 3 The aim of the club is to promote Model Car Racing, provide a facility for its members, arrange race meetings in order to publicise and further the interests of the sport and support charitable events. I always knew the CMCC was the best in the country, but the icing on the cake is when all of the effort is recognised by others. Thank you the BRCA Committee. " Richard Chillingsworth |
