Race news from 1/8th I:C Circuit round 1 - Mendip

27/11/2006

The Mendip meeting over the Easter weekend marked the start of a full season of one day racing for the 1/8th IC on road section. The one day racing format seems to have rekindled people’s interest in competing, and for this the first meeting of the season we had over sixty drivers entered.

Free practice day on Saturday was dry and mild conditions and the circuit was extremely busy from early in the morning to late evening.

Race day Sunday was dry but the temperature had dropped dramatically with most people trying desperately just to keep warm. If the air temperature was cool the racing itself was simply white hot with fast 18 and 19 lap heats being posted as early as heat four in the very first round. As the three rounds of qualifying progressed it was obvious that you needed a 20 lap heat just to guarantee an open final place. At the end of qualifying we had Mark Green with his Serpent 950R on pole with a blistering 20 laps in 306 seconds. The finals were equally as dramatic as qualifying and at the end of the day it was Dave Dixon with his Mugen MRX4 who came home in first position.

The result of the open being,

  • Dave Dixon    110 laps            Mugen MRX4

  • Neil Diver       109 laps            Mugen MRX4

  • Glyn Beal        108 laps            Serpent 950R

Winners of the other finals were

  • A final             John Carr

  • B final             Rob Coleman

  • C final             Chris Edwards

  • D final             John Russell

  • E final             Shane Hanwell

The next round of the championship will be held at the Wombwell circuit in South Yorkshire on Sunday 24th April. If you want any information on 1/8th racing then drop me an e-mail at cart@carr47.freeserve.co.uk and I’ll get back to you
