The fourth round of this year’s championship was held at the Halifax circuit in West Yorkshire. Practice on Saturday in bright dry conditions saw a number of quick cars on the circuit at various times of the day. With practice carrying on until early evening we had quite a number of cars who all looked capable of running qualifying heats in the 19/20 laps bracket.
When we awoke the following morning it was to a dull misty day. No sooner were we set up in the pits than the first rain began to fall increasing in ferocity by the minute. With the track now awash race director for the weekend Eric White tried to hold the start of the meeting to give the rain a chance to clear. Eventually he had to start and any of the few drivers who ventured out found an extremely wet track with precious little grip. Round two was slightly better with the rain having now stopped the track begun to dry slowly. The later rounds had the better of the conditions and that resulted in Mark Green being the quickest with a modest 16/312.
A leisurely lunch break saw the weather and the track improve, sadly yet again reducing qualifying to a “luck of the draw” five minute dash. At the end it was Mark Green who proved the quickest with the only 20 lapper of the day. Not for the first time this year Mark Green used his pole position to blast off from the front and dominate the final. At the end of the half hour we had the following result.
The lower finals were equally as keenly contested with the following drivers finishing as winners
The next round of the championship will be at the Tibshelf circuit in Derbyshire on the 3rd July a telephone call to Keith Davies on 01777 703527 will get you either an entry or more information.
