1:8th I.C. circuit Round 5 Tibshelf

27/11/2006

The fifth round of this year’s championship saw us at the Tibshelf circuit for the first time this season. Saturdays practice time was limited to comply with local restrictions. That in itself ensured that the track was always busy with an above average number of seriously quick cars. Sunday saw yet more of the hot sunny weather we had experience on Saturday and the prospect in these conditions was for a day of fast close racing.

Once again a strong turnout listen attentively to the drivers briefing

With another entry of fifty drivers the fight for an open final place was always going to be tight. Right from the start of practice we had an awful lot of cars who all seemed capable of running comfortably in the low twelve high eleven second bracket. As the meeting progressed it became obvious that if you couldn’t find at least a twenty five lap heat then your chance of an open final place was not looking good. As he has done for most of the season Mark Green was the man to beat and his new track record run in the second round of 26 laps in 305 seconds was the one to beat. Neil Diver tried hard to catch Mark and was the only other driver into the 26’s with a 26/311. Gareth Bell would probably have joined them on 26 but sadly ran out of fuel before the finish on his fastest round.

Top ten qualifiers ready to do battle

The open final was probably one of the most confusing we have seen in a long time. Race leader Mark Green went out with radio battery problems at 13 minutes, followed within the next six minutes by Dave Spashett, Gareth Bell, and Glyn Beal. Up front we had a great scrap between Neil Diver and Andy North, settled at the end of thirty minutes great racing in Neil’s favour by just over a lap. The final result being as follows

  1. Neil Diver               MugenMRX4       145 laps

  2. Andy North             Mugen MRX4      144 laps

  3. Clive Connolly       Shepherd              142 laps

After a hard final Neil wins followed by Andy and Clive

The lower finals were as ever keenly contested resulting in wins for the following drivers.

  • A final             Kev Brown

  • B final             Avo Anmahouni

  • C final             Andy Gregory

  • D final             Chris Heath
