I would like to draw to the attention of the 1/8th committee and to the BRCA members, to the matter of the monitoring of driving standards (Sections 4.8 and 4.19 of the 1/8th Rules). These rules have been repeatedly overlooked, resulting in competitors being placed at a substantial disadvantage. I therefore propose a revision of these rules to aid the decision of the race director at each meeting, whilst producing little or no extra hassle. My suggestion is to utilise the additional drivers that are not always required for marshalling, to act as referees. These referees would be appointed by the race director, prior to the commencement of the meeting. Each referee would as monitors to help clarify accidents, leading to the appropriate penalties being imposed by the race director, in accordance with the current rules. I believe that the implementation of these revised rules would prove vastly advantageous to all drivers, encouraging a higher standard of driving, as well as reducing costly and unnecessary accidents between cars.
