Proposed Race format 2007

Background

I wanted to make use of some of John’s ideas last year. The proposal we passed last year had a lot of merit but we could not figure out how to deal with the logistic problems. So I am proposing the following.

Proposal

A single sided bump up system promoting the first two in every final running 12 cars per final.

How it would work

· Nothing changes for qualifying.

· Drivers are assigned to finals in groups of 10 based on their qualifying. With the exception of the last two finals

· The lowest final will have a minimum of 6 cars, this could mean that the penultimate lower final may have either 7,8,9 or 10 cars

· The winner and runner up of each final gets an opportunity to bump up into the next final and run as car number 11 and 12

• The Race director will allow 10 minutes between finals. This could be longer depending on a lack of time restrictions or number of entries.

Points

• Nothing changes; we give points on overall finishing positions.

Trophies.

• Trophies are awarded based on the finishing positions in the finals. This does mean that a driver may win more than won trophy.

Marshalling

• Drivers not bumping up will marshal the next final. Where there is less than 9 drivers in the lowest final, some drivers from the A final will marshal the penultimate lowest final instead of the lowest final. Because we will have 12 car finals we will not be short of marshals. (See scenarios for examples)

Benefits.

• Add an additional invective to those running in all the finals.
• Spices up the race format adding a new element.
• Keeps more drivers running in finals (Creates an additional 3.5 fours of racing time!)
• If qualifying has been affected due to weather conditions during the day it provides an opportunity for drivers to recover
• No additional finals need to be run but we still benefit from a bump up system
• A minimum of 6 drivers in the lowest final provides consistency in the allocation of the finals and prevents the situation where we have 3 or 4 cars only. This creates more competition and interest for everyone.

These Scenarios show how the lowest final will be allocated if the lower final does not have at least 6 drivers. This situation only occurs where the number of driver qualifying for the finals is between 3 & 5 (For e.g. 33-35,43-45,53-55 etc)
