2008 8th IC circuit season updates

25/02/2008

Welcome to the 2008 season. Online booking is now open but before you do that please review this update on some important issues for the new season

Results of the questionnaire

Thanks to all that participated in the survey the feedback was very interesting. There were one major theme that came across, this was

  • Gas car racing is not cheap, but as we can't directly influence the cost of racing we need to do what we can to improve the value for money and ensure everyone gets the maximum enjoyment from the weekend

Following from the committee meeting on the 23rd of February here are three changes to ensure we all have a great season

  1. Race format. To allow everyone to get as much running as possible we have decided to run 4 rounds of qualifying at all events and make all finals except for the A final 20 minutes. The A final remains 30 minutes.

  2. Encouraging newcomers. During the Saturday practice, there will be two 30 minute sessions exclusively for those drivers with rankings over 150. These will be from 11:30 - 12:00 and 2:30 - 3:00. These rankings will be published on the Saturday morning. We look forward to seeing our more experienced drivers using this time to proactively assist new drivers.

  3. Race discipline. Following on the theme of enjoyment, our section has always scored highly in this area, but we would like to reinforce the need for all our drivers to race in a disciplined and sportsman like manner to ensure everyone is fairly treated.

Final Round of the championship

The final round of the championship has been tentatively awarded to the Adur circuit. This is pending a successful test around July. While Adur have limited space they are busy upgrading their circuit with a view to running 8th IC cars. We are in contact with the circuit and when they are ready we will arrange for a test as we did with Cotsworld last year.

Withdrawing from an event

The intention of being able to withdraw from the event after qualifying is to ensure we don't have unused places in our finals and that all our finals are well marshalled. So as a reminder this is how it works.

  • If you have had a bad days qualifying and do not want to participate in the finals you need to inform race control within 10 minutes after qualifying. As a result of you withdrawing you are physically deleted from the meeting and all your qualifying times removed.  This means you do not have to marshal and your qualifying times are not used to update your ranking. This also means you do not score any points for the meeting.

  • You can only do this once a season.

Body and Muffler list

The body and muffler list for 2008 will be published as soon as this is received from EFRA. We expect this in the next few weeks.

If you have any queries about anything please contact the relevant committee member.

The committee would like to wish everyone the best of luck for the season and look forward to a strong turn out at Brooklands
