It is with much sadness, that I have to inform Off-Road racing enthusiasts everywhere of the untimely death of Ray Dodd. Ray died as a result of a severe heart attack on Saturday 9th. April 2005, at an Off-Road National event at Tiverton. Ray, along with wife Brenda and son Mat. lived at Elton near Chester. Ray was aged 61. As often happens, Ray became interested in our sport when his son Mat. found that racing radio controlled model cars could be fun. Early involvement centred around competing at local events and being involved with the Frodsham Off-Road Club. Their keen and competitive interest in the sport soon lead to attending Regional events, with the natural progression of attending National and International events following. Ray always gave full support to son Mat. and would always be on-hand wherever Mat. raced. As the organiser in the team, Ray would spend many hours prior to the events making sure that all the equipment was 'up to scratch' and the spares and tyres were on hand. At National events, Ray was not usually part of the hotel brigade and would normally be found camping on-site. The group of friends that he was part of, enjoyed his attention to the simple things, especially the early morning cup of tea. Not only did Ray give full support to his son, but was willing to help anyone regardless of the nature of the request. His commitment to our sport could not be faulted and would often be found helping with refereeing duties at all levels of events. Ray retired from his job at a chemical company two years previous and was enjoying spending time on hobbies that a fulltime job does not usually allow, and of course playing more of his beloved snooker. Those that knew Ray, will remember him as a kind and generous person, who supported all people in every way. A quite man with the utmost integrity and a true friend. He will be missed, but never forgotten. The Off-Road Section would like to pass on their condolences to Brenda and Mat. Paul Worsley. (Of -Road Chairman)
