2022 1/10 IC & GT8 BRCA Nationals Round 3 Cotswold - Here is what happened!

Round 3 was held at the Cotswold Circuit.
The committee organised a meeting for the 1/10 drivers who voted to go back to the previous format and run the 200mm Touring and 220mm GT cars separately.
Saturday was mainly sunny and dry but interspersed with a few showers. The track
dried quickly allowing some morning open practice and timed practice heats in the
afternoon

Sunday started with a short practice session for those drivers unable to attend on
Saturday ,followed by four rounds of qualifying heats.
Intermittent short showers meant relying on luck to get a dry qualifying heat .
The final qualifying positions were as follows :
1/10 220mm GT
TQ Richard K
2nd Richard Boult
3rd Bailey Rice Draycot
GT8 Nitro
TQ Matt Baker
2nd Adam Southgate
3rd Louis Parker
1/10 IC 200mm Touring
TQ Stefan Chodzynski
2nd Matthew Cook
3rd Byron Russell
GT8 Electric
TQ Alex Thurston
2nd Craig Woods
3rd Glyn Beal
To mark the 50th Anniversary of the BRCA the meeting was attended by Alan Leighton BRCA Pro who gave out cupcakes to all the members and later presented the trophies.

Long serving member Walt Bailey 80+ and still going strong !

Finals:
B Final 1/10 220mm GT
Pole position Ian Arkell led from the start before mechanical issues dropped him down. Same for the other drivers apart from Adz and Freddie who had close battle with Adz winning by just one lap.
1st Adz Mughal (Serpent)
2nd Freddie Parker
3rd Ian Arkell (Serpent)

A Final 1/10 220mm GT
Richard K led off with Richard Boult and Bailey in hot pursuit. Richard had a flame out allowing Bailey through with Boulty just behind. Bailey eventually won by 2 laps. Daniel Chilvers drove a very steady race and took advantage late on with Richard K on the grass to take a well deserved first A final podium and only 8 seconds behind Boulty.

This was the closest and most exciting final of the weekend with the top three qualifiers repeatedly changing positions with the result in doubt right down to the final minutes. Eventually Adam won by 12 seconds from Matt with Louis just a few seconds back.

1st Stefan Chodzynski (Capricorn)
2nd Jonathan Withington (X-ray)
3rd Devendra Mahatme (Serpent)

A Final GT8 Electric
Alex Thurston again dominated all three legs with good competition between the other drivers. Craig Woods seemed very quick but reliability issues ended his challenge for the podium with Glyn just ahead of “Mr B “ (according to his bodyshell ! )
1st Alex Thurston (Capricorn)
2nd Glyn Beal (Capricorn)
3rd Paul Bellinger (Serpent)

Another enjoyable race weekend. Thanks to the Cotswold club for presenting the track in great condition and providing first class pit facilities. A special mention to Muriel Russell who worked tirelessly all weekend in race control to make the meeting run smoothly and to time. The next round is at the tight challenging Colchester circuit on the weekend of the 6th and 7th August .
