1/10th IC Round 5 Race Report

10th IC Circuit

The latest round of the 1/10th IC National series took place at the Mendip circuit in the South of England.

The weather forecast was looking unpredictable for the weekend with showers due at some point on race day. Saturday practice, however, proved to be dry and drivers were keen to get going on the fast circuit.

With the threat of showers looming, it was decided to cancel Sunday’s practice round and dive straight into qualifying. In the 200mm class, the Serpent/XRD F.T. Line pairing of Mark Green and Alex Thurston made their return to the series after missing the previous round due to ENS commitments. They set the pace ahead of the man that dominated that race, James Conolly (Mugen Seiki/Picco MAG Tuned). In the 220mm class, Dan Jones (Serpent/Ielasi Tuned) took a maiden TQ on only his 2nd appearance with Jason Fox (Capricorn/Max Power) and Richard Kozaiewicz (Xray/OS Speed) close behind. Finally, in the GT8 class, it was again Dan Jones who took pole position for the finals. This time he would line up in front of Mark Owen (Serpent/Werks) and Matt Baker (Serpent/Picco).

After a few showers throughout qualifying, the track started out damp for the GT8 final with Jones holding position at the start ahead of Tadas Siksnius (Serpent/Trakstar) and Paul Dewsnap (Serpent/XRD). With the track drying throughout the final, Jones streaked away into the distance with Owen finding his form to come home a fine 2nd and Dewsnap taking the final podium spot.

Unfortunately for the rest of the drivers, an intense rain shower during the 220mm B Final made conditions incredibly hard. Kudos to the drivers of that final for continuing. Once it was the turn of the A finals, a driver’s vote was held and the meeting was unfortunately declared finished with points being awarded based on qualifying positions.
