Report by Martin Woodcock and Pictures/Captions by Andy Carless

Aldershot in Surrey hosted round three of the 2017 championship. Saturday practice was well attended with riders getting used to the updated track layout. Lap times were about a second longer with the modified chicane more twisty. Aldershot is so rewarding if you keep a tight racing line.

Sunday qualifying started at 9.30am with Superbikes. Then three heats of Stock bikes followed by the Nitrobikes. By round two it was clear we were having some very close racing. In Superbike Gary Sim's led, just pipping Matt Tims by 0.16 sec. Stockbike was led by Darren Johnson's Jabber,  Gary Clarke's FF01 just 0.8 sec behind. In Nitrobike Fred Martin's KP, with a rebuilt Picco motor was looking well dialled, chased by Karl Boak's RG Evolution.

At the end of round 4 the final qualifing order had some improvements as the day warmed up with some welcome sun. In superbike Matt improved by 2 seconds over Gary, and in Stockbike Simon Lancaster moved up to second place, just 0.84sec behind Darren. Karl closed in on Fred in Nitrobikes, 0.35 seconds behind.

The first round of finals saw Matt Tims take an easy win in Superbike with 30 laps, Mark Plested 's KP 2nd on 25 laps chased by Neal Vater's KP, only one lap behind.
Stockbike A final saw Gary Clarke take the win from Simon Lancaster 2nd and Steve Leake's M3R16  3rd, all still very close after 10 minutes racing. The stockbike B final suffered with marshalling issues and a computer glitch so was re-run at the end of the meeting. Nitrobike Fred's KP took the win followed by Karl, with Ken and an improving James not far behind.

Finals second round. Superbike had Matt suffering with some thermalling problems, but not enough to compromise the win, Gary closer, three laps behind. Neal in third. Stockbike A final saw Darren take the win from Simon by 12 seconds, with Gary, Peter and Steve battling it out for third place, finishing all on the same lap. Stockbike B final ran without problems this time, Paul Jenkinson taking the win from Ross Bartlett, Colin Mulligan and Dave Richards, all finishing a single lap behind Paul.

In Nitrobikes Fred's Picco powered KP was like a missile down the straight. Both Karl and Ken had good runs and James seems to be improving  every meeting, clocking some good times with his Nouva Faor Nitrobike

Technically the bikes continue to develop, with upgrades for the FF01 trailing link front suspension and surprising good performance from the rigid forks on the M3R-16 . Darren's Jabber with modified geometry for improved turn in was impressive, looking smooth all day. The Superbikes open motor power showed little benefit at Aldershot, stockbike 17.5T  Blinky laptimes on the updated track layout were virtually the same. Tyre choice was mainly Roadies B2 or B3 with a few riders using GRPs or the supersoft Roadie B1 early in the day.

Next round is on the South Coast at the Adur track....
