Race Reports From Round 1 And Round 2 Of The 2017 Truggy Nationals

 

Well 2017 started differently than normal. With the first round scheduled for the 12th March. But the weather gods was not on our side so we decided to reschedule the meeting for later on in the year. So we actually started with round 2 at the popular venue which is Kent Model Car Club, Just out of Linton

The meeting was a busy one. Racing started at 9am, Starting with two rounds of practice. 

The meeting consisted of 7 heats per round, E-Buggy's had two rounds of practice, Truggy's had one round of practice. All classes had 3 rounds of qualifying.

The qualfying stage of the meeting was tough. You could see some of the newer drivers to track stuggling with the tracks features. Has qualifying continued we saw the lap times starting to come down. 

At the end of qualfying we saw Elliot Boots take TQ in Truggy, TLR Driver qualified second, Another TLR Driver Simon Willetts qualified third. E-Buggy class we saw Nemo Racing's Driver Darren Bloomfield take TQ, Elliot Boots who we saw earlier in Truggy qualifiy second and Lee Martin qualified third place. 

After 9 Finals with 14 cars in each final. with the top four being promoted into the next final. We saw Team Kyosho driver win the 30 minute final with a two lap lead. TLR driver Jack Embling who had a disasterous qualifying finishing second after coming up through the finals. Another TLR driver Mike Lewis took third place 

The E-Buggy A Final was a tense race to watch. After a great battle Nemo Racing's Darren Bloomfield took the win. Lee Martin took second place with only 1.28 of a second off 18 laps. Third place was Associated driver Jamie Clancy. For myself running the meeting and being the ref its difficult when Jamie Clancy and Darren Bloomfield are on the track at the same time because their shells are very simular. One of you change your colour scheme!

Round 1 took place at NDOR on the rearranged date of April 23rd. 

58 Drivers arrived at the Astro Turf venue in Nottinghamshire. With the same format at round 2. Two rounds of practice for E-Buggy one, One round of practice for truggy. Then everyone had three rounds of qualfiying. 

With the RallyX nationals being at the same venue a few weeks before, The lap times were quick and consistant to start with. 

Competition was fierce. TLR driver Simon Willetts took TQ in Truggy. Another TLR driver Mike Lewis took second place in qualifying. Team Associated driver Jon Howells took the third qualifying spot. In E-Buggy Nemo Racing's Darren Bloomfield took the TQ place, Another Nemo Racing driver Jonathan Skidmore qualified second. Tekno driver Carlo DeMarco qualfied third. 

During the qualfying period we had some issues with the timing loop so we had to re run a truggy heat but no great shakes, Some of the drivers didnt mind, more track time and another crack at getting a fast time in. 

However at the end of the Truggy A Final we saw TLR Driver Mike Lewis take the win after a great race in the 30 minute final. Simon Willetts finished second after a fantastic race. Jon Howells finished third. Tekno Driver Daniel Austin finished forth with his electric truggy. 

The E-Buggy final was brilliant to watch. The top two drivers we locked in a battle all the way through. Early in the race Jonathan Skidmore took the lead from Darren Bloomfield. As the race went on the distance between first and second was getting shorter and shorter. It came so close everything was still to play for till the last lap. 

However after the computer called the race over, Jonathan Skidmore took the win with an impressive time of 20 laps in 12 minutes 36.96 seconds. Darren Bloomfield came in second place with only a 4 second gap behind Jonathan and Tekno team driver, Carlo DeMarco came in third place giving him his first national poduim finish.

I would like to say thank you to all the drivers that turned up to both the events and for making the organisation easy for myself. 

I would like to give a big shout out to the team at NDOR who put in hours and hours of hard work at the track to get it ready for us. And a massive thank you for the NDOR club memebrs that helped out with marshalling in the some of the heats and finals. Made a big difference. 

I would also like this opportunity to say get well soon to Tim Ramsden from NDOR who has been ill for the past couple of weeks with back problems. If you do end up in a wheelchair no beefing it up and putting bigger wheels and a faster motor on to it. your meant to be slowing down :)
