2022 GT12 National Season Review

1/12th Circuit GT

2022 GT12 season review!

96 racers, 6 Rounds, 3 different winners  - 1 champion.

Congratulations to Dan Robins reclaiming the title of BRCA GT12 national champion.

Thank you to all the racers who attended and every one behind the scenes who organised or ran these events. The season was huge success and hopefully the first of many that this new committee will run.

Round 1

The season kicked off at Mb models in September with the usual suspects topping the time sheets from the start. It was Mackman, Robins and Jewit showing the rest of the field how it's done and 3 names which went on to feature at the top of the time sheets at almost all events.
It was to be Mark Jewitt's day though and from 3rd on the grid snatched victory when Dan and Adam had a coming together creating just enough space for the pass, and the win.

Round 2

The series travelled south to Eastbourne where Andy Murray joined us, with him taking TQ and flag to flag victory in the A final but Robins and Jewit were hot on his heals with the top 3 covered by just a few seconds.

Round 3

The start of a busy month with 2 GT12 nationals and an EFRA GP taking place in November, first we went to Tamworth with the busiest event of the season and full house of 60 entries. Murray again taking TQ with Robins, Jewit and Mackman close behind. It turned out to be a very close finish with Robins keeping the pressure on right to the end but Murray managed to hang onto victory by just 3 tenths of a second. Mark Jewit maintained his championship lead through his great consistent driving.

Round 4

On to a new venue with a trip to Stafford, the track layout raised a few eyebrows on first sight with a tricky double chicane at the far end, showing the men from the boys. Though in this case it was the boys showing the men how to do it! 2 new names were at the sharp end following qualifying with Sam Coult and Ewan Thompson joining Dan Robins at the top, the 3 youngsters thumbs clearly faster than the rest. It was Robins though that took top spot in the A final his first win of the season and now championship leader.

Round 5

Chesterfield, a regular venue for 1/12th racing except now in their new home at David Nieper academy.
Despite his best efforts Murray couldn't match the pace of Robins with Jewitt again in 3rd and keeping the pressure on in the race for the title.
In the race, Robins didn't have it all his own way with Murray taking the lead only for Dan to make a last lap, last corner challenge and snatch the win across the line and with it the title, as Murray wouldn't be attending the final round.

Round 6

Another new venue Stoke RCMCC.
Their first time hosting any national event and they put on a good track within an excellent facility.
With only pride at stake the racing was close as ever and again Robins, Jewitt and Mackman finished the season as it has started by topping qualifying. It was Robins who for the third time celebrated on the top step.

It's been fantastic to see some younger drivers climb through the field with 5 of the top 10 in the championship sixteen or younger. We hope these young stars of the future encourage more youth to take up our hobby. Keep up the good work Dan Robins, Sam Coult, Oscar Keen, Finn Whitelock and Ewan Thompson

Once again congratulations to Dan Robins and all the competitors for taking part and a big thank you to the host clubs for organising such great events.
