1/8th Stock Cars shock result as yellow top Kane Farren wins National Round One

Radio Stock Cars Leicester welcomed 32 drivers as the chase for the silver roof began in the East Midlands, where representatives from four of the five UK clubs enjoyed bright and breezy conditions.

Having had a lot of use so far this season due to high numbers of drivers at each meeting, the track provided a difficult and slippery racing surface. Current National Series champion Ben Harding made the most of home advantage to finish the heats as top qualifier and set highest lap scores in rounds 2 & 3.  Sam Wearing just about managed to secure the second automatic qualification place one lap ahead of Steve Farrer, after benefitting from highest scores in rounds 1 & 4. Steve booked his place in the final by finishing a solid second in semi final one, with section chairman Gary Osborne taking the win with a lap advantage. Semi final two provided more entertainment as Steve Wearing and Alex Montague battled hard behind Kane Farren who recorded a flag to flag victory from starting at yellow. Steve eventually came out on top with Alex dropping down the placings after being pin-balled by back markers.

The final was won during the opening laps as Kane barged past Gary after they had both started well from yellow and the visiting Nottingham driver pulled away into a comfortable lead which he maintained until the end. Ben held off early threats from Steve Wearing to carve through the pack and finish second, meanwhile Steve Farrer claimed a good third place after recovering from a spin on the first lap. Gary survived an optimistic lunge from Sam towards the end of the race to finish 4th, and Steve Wearing cruised into 5th with Sam left in the fence and last place.
