The second National of the 2026 season was held at the technical and high speed
Wombwell circuit in South Yorkshire on the 17th/18th May.

Again we were able to welcome some new drivers. Saturday started cloudy but dry. Rain arrived mid after-
noon curtailing any more practice. Sunday morning was bright with sunshine however some rain was forecast later in
the day. Drivers’ briefing was followed by the usual short practice session for those
unable to attend on the Saturday. Then it was straight in to 4 rounds of qualifying.

Alex Thurston led off for the first few minutes building up a lead over a chasing Matt
Cook. It them started to rain and Alex and Dev came in to change tyres. Unfortunate-
ly the wrong strategy as the rain abated leaving the remainder of the race on a dry
track. Alex came in to change tyres again but was unable to catch Matt ending up half
a lap behind at the end. Craig drove consistently and stayed out the whole race taking
the final podium place.

TQ Glyn Beal stormed off in the lead with Bailey and Mark chasing hard. After
10mins Glyn lost a spur gear but stayed out but slowly dropped down the field.
Meanwhile Mark Boothman was very fast taking the lead with Paul Cook following
in second. Mark eventually won by 6 laps from Paul who ended up 1 lap ahead of
third place. Several DNFs left Matt Baker in third with Dev in 4th. These two were
on the same lap for the last couple of minutes . On the final lap they were jostling for
position and Dev got in front. On the final bend Matt managed to pass Dev . However
on the straight Dev managed to accelerate faster and overtook Matt on the line to take
the last podium spot. The margin between the two was 16/100 of a second !
