Just like Formula 1 and MotoGP, modern motorsport needs to adapt and change to stay relevant, exciting, and accessible. GT12 is no exception! Over the years, the cars have become incredibly fast and advanced, moving away from the class's original vision as an ideal beginner category. We can't rewind the clock, but we can make changes to the overall package to keep the racing close, beginner-friendly, and sustainable. To secure the future of GT12, we are proposing a significant update to the rules, aimed at reducing costs, levelling the playing field, and broadening chassis choice:
Proposed Rule Changes:
Motor Change:
Switching from the current 13.5T motor to a 17.5T motor. This will slightly slow the class down, making it more manageable and appealing for new drivers to learn the ropes!
Chassis Adoption:
Changing the construction rules to allow LMP chassis.
This is the biggest change, and it's a huge positive! It gives competitors a much larger choice of chassis (e.g., Xray, Awesomatix, Zen, CRC etc), bringing in more brands and diversity.
Spec Tire:
Implementing a spec tire for all national events. Specifically, utilising A foam tires. This is a major cost reduction measure, as these tires are generally: lower cost to purchase and extremely long-lasting. Bringing an overall cost reduction to weekly racing!
Addressing the Cost of Change:
We know cost can be a concern regarding change. While national event racers will need to buy new 17.5T motors, the rest of the switch is highly cost-effective: Existing GT12 chassis can be cheaply modified with a different axle to comply with the new LMP rules. Older LMP chassis will now become usable in the class!
We will be keeping the current body shell rules to keep the cars looking realistic.
Change is essential for survival and growth.
By making these progressive adjustments, we aim to keep GT12 racing vibrant, competitive, and welcoming for the next generation of racers.
We will be running a demonstration heat of GT12 Evo on Sunday morning of the GT12 National GP to showcase how they perform on a national size track.
